About us

Company history

Since our foundation in 1919, Staack pool petrol stations have stood for the highest standards of quality and service.

As a company that has grown solidly and healthily since its founding, we have consistently supported our customers and partners with medium-sized business operations and professional expertise.

Originating from a retail business for lubricants and operational supplies founded in the early 20th century, the business of our founder Hans Staack evolved in line with regional needs and industrial developments.

With the core concept of providing a "perfect service to the customer," additional sales points were established at several locations over the years. During this time, the bunker business in northern Germany also grew, along with additional storage facilities for product deliveries. A key factor in our current stability in the industry was the decision to introduce our own gas stations to the market. This marks the birth of our current product portfolio.

    The Transformation of Staack Pooltankstellen

After the untimely passing of Hans Staack on April 10, 1950, his wife Maria Magdalena, together with Bruno Pönitz, took over the management of the company at the time. In the following years, ship refueling was phased out in favor of land-based mineral oil supply. This was followed by the expansion of an independent network of gas stations, alongside newly appointed general partner Hansjörg Quistorff and a team of around 60 employees.

In the early 1990s, the company’s development accelerated once again with the co-founding of tankpool24, now one of the leading companies in commercial fuel supply. It was during this time that we acquired our now well-known name, Staack Pooltankstellen.

The success story continued to gain momentum in 2001, when Staack Pooltankstellen was acquired by the Marquard & Bahls Group. With this development, Volker Tiedemann, and later Jens Kernbach, took over the company’s management.

Under the joint flag of the tankpool24 alliance, the gas station business expanded significantly, and the brand continued to strengthen its position in the market.

In 2016, we left a historic building in Hamburg Wilhelmsburg and moved into a new, state-of-the-art office building at Kattwykstraße 12.

The choice of location, in the heart of the Port of Hamburg, was carefully made to maintain close proximity to our commercial customers. This also provided a suitable opportunity for our sister company, Oiltanking, to establish itself on the site.

Another milestone in the company’s history will begin in 2024.

To consolidate the operations of the various gas station companies within the group, Lipps Energie GmbH from Hagen and Uhlenbruck Energie GmbH & Co. KG from Mülheim will merge in 2024 under new leadership by Florian Lückmann with Staack Pooltankstellen GmbH in Hamburg. Two more companies will be integrated in 2025. Together, we will establish a stronger market presence and move forward hand in hand into a promising future.
